Patent families are defined as a set of patents that share at least one priority.
Because patent families arise from shared priorities, the tracks on which priorities arise and the tracks on which patent families arise are the same.
Priority arises through
i) Domestic(/provisional)/treaty priority claim applications
ii) original applications, divisional applications(DIV), continuation-in-part applications(CIP), continuation applications(CA), etc.
When a set of patents is limited to a nation, it is referred to as domestic patent families. When a set of patents extends overseas, it is referred to as international patent families or all international patent families.
